Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to begin technical negotiations, with hopes of holding the first intergovernmental conference in June this year, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister Josip Brkic said here Thursday. He was among the speakers at the EU Meets the Balkans forum in Sofia.
The event is organized by the European Liberal Forum, the ALDE Party, and the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria with the participation of Vice President Iliana Iotova, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk, representatives from Turkiye, Romania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and Montenegro, Bulgarian MPs and policy experts.
Brkic noted that Bulgaria was the first country to recognize Bosnia and Herzegovina's independence.
"For all politically interested parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European path is unanimously regarded as our top foreign policy goal. Public support stands at 71% according to the latest opinion polls at the end of 2024. However, sometimes the European path is held hostage by irresponsible politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina aiming to extract local political benefits," commented Brkic.
