The Roman bath Sarikaya in Yozgat Province, Central Turkiye, built nearly 2,000 yeas ago, will open for tourists on August 15, Yozgat Governor Ziya Polat said on Twitter.

Final restorations are currently underway, together with archaeological excavations.

The restoration was launched in 2022 under the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Museums. The site is popular for its mineral pools where water has temperature of 50C.

Within the framework of the project there will be a market for local products and walking areas, said Polat.

After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923 the region continued to be popular for its mineral waters. Its last known name is Sarikaya.

Last year the mineral water disappeared briefly due to the hot and dry weather in the region.

The Roman Bath Sarikaya or Kral Kizi Hamami was included on UNESCO’s tentative list of cultural heritage in 2018.
