site.btaAlmost Half of Romanians Support Reintroduction of Mandatory Military Service, Survey Shows
A total of 49% of Romanians believe that mandatory military service should be reintroduced, while 47% are opposed, according to the latest Avangarde survey titled “Regional Security - Perceptions and Expectations”, cited by local media.
The survey also found that 68% of respondents believe a peace agreement in Ukraine should be signed if it is negotiated under conditions set by the United States, while 18% do not support signing such an agreement under U.S.-imposed conditions, and 14% are unsure or did not respond.
Regarding rapid rearmament in Romania to strengthen national defence capabilities, 71% answered positively, 22% disagreed, and 7% were unsure or did not respond.
On the state of bilateral relations between Romania and the United States, 36% of respondents expressed satisfaction, while 56% disagreed and 8% were unsure or did not respond.
Views on closer economic ties with Russia were almost evenly split: 48% responded positively, 49% negatively, and 3% were unsure or did not respond.
The survey was conducted between December 27 and 30, 2025, and included 1,000 respondents aged 18 and over.
