site.btaSix Istanbul–Tehran Flights Cancelled amid Protest-fuelled Tensions
Six flights from Istanbul to Tehran have been cancelled so far due to tensions in the Iranian capital caused by protests. A check of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) on the website of Istanbul Airport shows that four Turkish Airlines flights and one flight each operated by Iran’s Taban Airlines and Sepehran Airlines have been cancelled.
However, another four flights from Istanbul to the Iranian capital are still expected to operate. Despite the situation, flights to Tehran are scheduled to be carried out by the Iranian airlines Caspian Airlines, Meraj, Qeshm Airlines and Iran Airtours.
A check of the flight information system at Ankara Airport shows that no flights from the Turkish capital to Tehran are scheduled for Friday.
Although several aircraft took off overnight, a number of them failed to reach their destinations in Iran and turned back midway, Agence France-Presse reported. The flights were bound for Tehran, Mashhad and Shiraz.
Turkiye shares a 500-kilometre border with Iran, with three border crossing points. At this stage, Ankara has not issued a position on the situation in Tehran.
