Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev congratulated the Bulgarian community in Taraclia, Moldova, on Wednesday on the occasion of the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians, calling it "a celebration for all Bulgarians". He noted that since 2017, when BTA opened its National Press Club there, the agency has published a total of 1,541 news stories from Taraclia.

Valchev attended the opening of the International Children’s Festival of Bulgarian Music and Dance BESARAB FOLK, which launched the festive programme marking the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians at the Stepan Tanov House of Culture in Taraclia.

"Today, all of us in Bulgaria are Bessarabian Bulgarians. We owe Bulgaria’s freedom, proclaimed by Alexander Malinov in 1886, to Bessarabian Bulgarians. We also owe the founding of Bulgaria’s first university, St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, to a Bessarabian Bulgarian," Valchev said. “Thanks to BTA, people in Bulgaria know a lot about you here.”

He recalled that the National Press Club in Taraclia was established years ago under his predecessor, Maxim Minchev, and is now one of 46 BTA press clubs in Bulgaria, neighbouring countries, and nations with large Bulgarian communities.

"Thanks to our correspondent in Moldova, Irina Bogoeva, Bulgarians in Bulgaria receive news from the Bulgarians here in Taraclia. According to our records, from 2017 to the present, BTA has published 1,541 news items from Taraclia, all written by Irina Bogoeva - roughly one story for every working day. There have been 227 stories so far in 2025," Valchev said.

The BTA Director General quoted the Eulogy for Euthymius by Bulgarian scholar and Kyiv Metropolitan Grigoriy Tsamblak, who also helped spread the Bulgarian language. According to Valchev, the work captures the mission of media outlets like BTA and Moldova’s MOLDPRES, from which BTA publishes one news story daily. "We fulfil our mission to be like the teachers who spread Bulgarian culture," Valchev said.
