The Council of Ministers has authorized the entry and stay of the Turkish research vessel R/V TUBITAK MARMARA in Bulgaria’s maritime spaces between September 5 and 20, 2025, to carry out a joint international scientific expedition in the Black Sea, the Government information service said here on Wednesday.

The expedition is part of the ASTRA project (“Assessment of Toxins and Associated Microalgal species in the Black and Marmara Seas”), implemented under the EU-funded AQUARIUS programme.

The project will be conducted in the waters of Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkiye and aims to address critical knowledge gaps concerning harmful algal blooms and the dynamics of phytotoxins in the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara.
