site.bta1.8 Tonnes of Cannabis Plants Uncovered and Destroyed in SW Bulgaria

Law enforcers uncovered 951 cannabis plants in fields in Blagoevgrad Region, Southwestern Bulgaria, on August 12. The plants weighed 1,795 kg in total. They were destroyed on the spot in the presence of an official commission.

The total included 890 plants, weighing 1,725 kg, growing in two fields amid a forest area near Belyovo, Sandanski Municipality. The other 61 plants, weighing 70 kg, were growing in a field near Churilovo, Petrich Municipality.

The law enforcement operation involved criminal police from the Blagoevgrad Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, teams from the National Police Directorate General and the aerial surveillance unit of the Border Police Directorate General.

Pretrial proceedings were instituted in the two cases.
