site.btaGolden Peach Festival Opens in Gavrailovo for 23rd Time
The Golden Peach Festival, traditionally held in the village of Gavrailovo near Sliven, was officially opened on Saturday. This is the 23rd edition of the event, which over the years has become one of the most significant in this prime peach-growing region.
The celebration began with an official ceremony in front of the local community cultural centre. Participants in competitions for poetry, prose, vocal and dance performance, and applied arts were awarded.
Among the official guests were MP Tatyana Sultanova and Sliven Municipal Council Chair Dimitar Mitev.
Sultanova highlighted the unique blend of hard work, pride, and enduring values that make Gavrailovo the heart of the “Peach Valley.” She expressed her gratitude to the local growers for the care with which they bring fruit to the Bulgarian table.
Mitev noted that the festival is one of the most important events on the Sliven Municipality’s calendar. “Despite the challenges of recent years, the local community has shown resilience and unity in the name of a shared cause – preserving and developing agriculture in the region,” he said.
Gavrailovo Mayor Tenyo Bozhekov reminded attendees that, despite nature’s challenges, local producers continue to grow some of the tastiest peaches in Bulgaria, the result of many people’s daily efforts.
The festival is held under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Food. It is organized by the Municipality of Sliven, the Sliven Municipal Council, the Mayor’s Office of Gavrailovo, the “Sun – 1928” Community Cultural Centre, the producers’ organization “Bulgarian Peach” Ltd., and the National Agricultural Advisory Service.
