The MECh party will send invitations to opposition parties for a joint meeting on July 23 to discuss submitting a no-confidence motion against the Government over failures in the security sector, MECh leader Radostin Vassilev said at a briefing on Friday. Letters will be sent later in the day to Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), Vazrazhdane, Velichie, and the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, inviting them to sit at the same table and explore the possibility of initiating a no-confidence vote focused on what Vassilev described as “the failure of Deputy Prime Minister Daniel Mitov in the area of national security”.

“This is an unusual invitation aimed at gaining the broadest possible support, so that even visibly antagonistic parties might finally sit together at one table. This would be a step toward destabilizing the governance coalition led by [GERB leader Boyko] Borissov, [Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan] Peevski, and their supporting parties,” Vassilev said.

He explained that the discussion would focus on the reasoning for the potential motion, the procedure for submitting it, and how to ensure a more coherent and well-argued debate in Parliament. “We want to avoid the kind of comic scenes we have recently seen in the plenary hall,” he added. Media representatives will also be invited to the meeting.

Vassilev expressed hope that both Vazrazhdane and CC-DB would agree to meet with MECh, Velichie, and other parties, emphasizing that their continued disputes only help to reinforce “an otherwise entirely harmful Government.”

In response to a question about who is keeping the Government in power, Vassilev pointed to There Is Such a People and the Bulgarian Socialist Party. He stressed that any party refusing to sign the draft no-confidence motion on this issue would not be viewed favorably by the public.

“I also find the behavior of many of these parties unacceptable, but I am doing everything I can to act as a bridge between them. This is not about reconciliation or affection, but about a common goal that is more important,” MECh leader said.
