site.btaYes, Bulgaria Co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev: Government Puts 4,400 State-Owned Properties Up for Sale

The government has put 4,400 state-owned properties up for sale, Yes, Bulgaria Co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev told a news conference at Sofia Municipality on Thursday.
"The idea is not bad in principle, but we have some serious concerns," Mirchev said. "Being a right-wing party, we support meaningful privatization, but only when it is done with clear justification."
He added that Boyan Yurukov, a member of the party's National Council, has compiled a map and a list of the properties across the country. "They include green spaces, historical sites, even fishing villages and plots meant for schools and kindergartens, which someone is trying to sell off to private investors," Mirchev warned.
He explained that after the digital map was created, local organizations across the country and municipal councillors analyzed the situation, identifying what types of land plots are involved and what problems exist in each area. "We have sent questions to the Regional Development Minister to find out what criteria were used to select these properties. They promised to conduct a review two weeks ago, but we have not got any answers yet," Mirchev said.
The press conference was attended by Lyuben Ivanov MP of Democratic Bulgaria, as well as Sofia borough mayors and municipal councillors.
During the event, the platform uchastvai.bg was presented. It allows citizens to submit questions to public institutions, ministers, MPs, municipal councillors or administrations. According to its description, each question is forwarded, tracked and, if possible, published along with a response.
