The documentary comic book The Battle of Varna. Battle of the Nations in 1444 is being presented at the Prosveta 1927 Community Centre in Varna, author Elena Vladova told BTA on Tuesday. It is the fourth documentary comic by Elena Vladova as a screenwriter and Nikolay Rusev as an artist, with historian and former Director of the Vladislav Varnenchik Park-Museum, Dr. Nevyan Mitev, helping as a consultant.
The content follows the main events leading up to the Battle of Varna on November 10, 1444, and tells about the fate of the Balkan peoples, who fell under Ottoman rule. The European army, led by King Vladislav Varnenchik and the Hungarian commander Janos Hunyadi, is defeated by the Ottoman troops of Sultan Murad II. The publication ends with selected quotes and short excerpts from historical sources that testify to the scale and resonance of the event in Medieval Europe.
In addition to the printed edition, viewers can also see 12 exhibition panels with reproductions. The comic book is published with the support of the Culture Fund of Varna Municipality.
