The Ministry of the Interior marks 146 years since its establishment, the ministry said in a press-release on Saturday. Vice President Iliana Iotova will also attend, the President's press secretariat noted.
The official ceremony is set to begin in the morning hours on Saturday in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier with a blessing of the flags and the laying of wreaths.
Later, the Ministry's leadership will place flowers and wreaths at the memorial honouring police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The celebration takes place by a decision of the Council of Ministers from February 28, 1992. In 1879, Prince Alexander I issued Decree No. 1, which created the Ministry of the Interior pursuant to Article 161 of the Tarnovo Constitution. The same decree established the first government of the Principality of Bulgaria, appointing Todor Burmov as prime minister, minister of the interior, and head of the Ministry of Public Education.
