site.btaGolesh Traditional Convention to Bring Together People from Serbia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia

People from Bulgaria, Serbia and North Macedonia will come together for a traditional convention in the Bulgarian border village of Golesh on July 12. For years, the event has symbolized friendship, closeness and ties among communities in the three neighbouring countries.

This year’s edition will be hosted by the Municipality of Kriva Palanka, with the Municipalities of Bosilegrad and Kyustendil also contributing to the preparations and the cultural programme.

Traditionally, the fair will begin with the raising of the national flags and the playing of the national anthems of Serbia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The mayors of the three municipalities are expected to address those attending.

Folklore ensembles from the three countries will take part in the cultural programme. Bosilegrad will be represented by ensembles affiliated with the Culture Centre and the Mladost Sports Association, while performers from Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka will also appear.

For the convenience of visitors, a temporary border checkpoint will be open on the day of the fair from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Crossing will be permitted with an identity card only.

The fairs in this region preserve local traditions and bring together relatives, friends and neighbours. During the events, people can also buy various essential goods for which they would otherwise have to travel to other settlements.

The Municipality of Bosilegrad will organize two more conventions. On July 13, St Paul’s Day, the Convention of Crnook will take place in the Soborishte locality. A day later, on July 14, the Convention of Zagranja will be organized above the village of Dukat jointly with the Municipality of Targovishte.
