Bulgaria's Ministry of Justice marked the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria on Saturday, describing it as the supreme law that laid the foundations of the country's democratic state and enshrined the principles of the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights and freedoms.

In a statement published Sunday on its Facebook page, the Ministry said that today's responsibility is not only to safeguard both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution, but also to strengthen the rule of law, preserve the independence of the judiciary and build public trust in the justice system.

"This is the path towards a stronger, fairer and more modern Bulgaria," the statement said.

The Ministry described the Constitution as more than a legal document, calling it "a social contract" that unites Bulgarians around the values of freedom, justice, law and human dignity. It added that for the past 35 years the Constitution has served as a guarantor of the country's institutional stability and as a guiding framework for the development of Bulgaria's public institutions.

The official launch of events marking the 35th anniversary of the Constitutional Court and the Day of the Bulgarian Constitution took place in April at the Revival and Constituent Assembly Museum in Veliko Tarnovo.
