site.btaBTA Hosts Discussion on Poet Pencho Slaveykov and Bulgarian Modernism in Blagoevgrad
A discussion marking the 160th birth anniversary of poet and thinker Pencho Slaveykov and exploring Bulgarian Modernism will take place today, July 13, at the BTA press club in the southwestern town of Blagoevgrad. The event, titled "Pencho Slaveykov Today", is organized by the national news agency.
The discussion will be moderated by poet, literary scholar and critic Yordan Eftimov. Participants will include Prof. Tsvetan Rakyovski, Assoc. Prof. Boyka Ilieva, Assoc. Prof. Roman Hadzhikosev and secondary school literature teachers from the region.
The initiative is being held across all 33 of BTA's press clubs throughout Bulgaria. The first discussion dedicated to Pencho Slaveykov took place in his hometown of Tryavna on April 27. Similar events have since been held in Samokov, Kazanlak, Stara Zagora, Kyustendil, Pernik, Haskovo, Pazardzhik, Kardzhali, Smolyan, Plovdiv, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Svishtov and Ruse.
The December 2026 issue of BTA's LIK magazine will be dedicated to Pencho Slaveykov. In addition to reports from the discussions, the issue will feature a special collection of 160 words by 160 contributors marking the 160th anniversary of the poet's birth.
