site.btaSocial Democratic Union of Macedonia Loses Coalition Partner Shortly before Local Elections

The Democratic Renewal of Macedonia (DOM) party, one of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia's coalition partners, will leave the coalition to establish the Coalition for Green Future with representatives of the civil sector in North Macedonia, DOM announced on Monday after a meeting of its central council. The newly formed coalition plans to participate in the local elections in North Macedonia, which are scheduled for October 19.

DOM stated that "a new direction of independent, clear and ideologically consistent political action is needed." It criticized its former coalition partners for voting to restrict citizens' right to participate in elections and for "wiping independent candidates out of the electoral game".
