Valentina Georgieva secured second place in the vault final of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the German city of Leipzig on Friday.
The athlete coached by Filip Yanev, who also finished second last year in Rimini, delivered an excellent first vault which earned her the highest score in the competition—14.100 points. For her second vault, Georgieva received 13.700, with a final average of 13.900, placing her second. The gold went to Germany’s Karina Schoenmaier, who scored 13.985 points.
A mistake in the second routine cost Kevin Penev a medal in the floor final. Penev completed the remaining elements excellently and finished fifth with 12.866 points. The title went to Britain’s Luke Whitehouse, who scored 14.500.
