Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev met Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during the two-day visit of the Bulgarian first diplomat to the African country, the press centre of the ministry announced on Friday.
Georg Georgiev is on an official visit to Cairo, where he arrived at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel-Atti. Deepening bilateral relations, based on long-term partnership, shared interests and traditional mutual respect between the two nations, were among the topics discussed.
The Bulgarian first diplomat highlighted the strategic importance of Egypt as the largest trading partner of our country in the Middle East and Africa region, a leader in regional processes of security and stability. The two sides confirmed their desire to upgrade bilateral cooperation in key areas such as economy, energy, investments, security and regional dialogue, tourism and high technologies.
Georg Georgiev also discussed with his host specific steps for improving economic interaction, including the organizing of a joint commission for economic cooperation in the second half of 2025 and the establishment of a Bulgarian-Egyptian business council.
The focus of the talks between the two was the upcoming 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2026, which is seen as an opportunity to further strengthen political dialogue and bilateral exchange.
