The parliamentary group of GERB-UDF considers the first 100 days in office of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov as successful and declares its support for the government during the 51st National Assembly, GERB-UDF MP Toma Bikov said in a statement from the parliamentary rostrum on Wednesday.
"We expect that […] Bulgaria to be given the green-light for the eurozone and thus complete its integration into the EU. This is a tool that will provide the broadest possible guarantees for remaining in Europe’s orbit," the MP explained. He said that the GERB-UDF parliamentary group will strive to maintain a balanced approach and to listen both to the arguments of its partners and those of the opposition parties.
"The adoption of the 2025 budget and the two no-confidence motions highlighted two important facts – the only alternative to the current government is a political crisis," Bikov said on behalf of GERB-UDF. "At this moment, the formations that tabled the motions can only act as a corrective to the governance but lack the potential to form one of their own. The second fact is that there is a solid pro-European majority in the National Assembly, which, however, cannot define itself or act in unison during times of geopolitical transformation that affect Bulgarian society," he added.
"We have never hidden that the current governing configuration, which the present cabinet represents, is the result of significant compromise by all participants," Bikov reminded. On behalf of GERB-UDF, he thanked BSP – United Left and There Is Such a People "for their reasonable and courageous decision to contribute to resolving the political crisis".
