The Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday at its regular sitting to increase by BGN 190 million the budget of the programme for compensating the costs of electricity prices to final non-household consumers, valid from July 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Thus, a total of BGN 1.179 billion will be paid in compensation, instead of the currently planned BGN 989 million. The changes are necessary due to increased electricity consumption during the winter months, combined with higher prices compared to those forecast at the beginning of January.

The compensations fully cover the difference between the real average monthly price at the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange for the respective month and the determined base value of BGN 180 per MWh. The program is financed with funds from the Electricity System Security Fund. The compensation will be paid by June 30, 2025.
