The Council of Ministers adopted a decision on Wednesday to open a Consulate of the Republic of Bulgaria in the United Mexican States, headed by an honorary (non-permanent) consular official, with its seat in the municipality of Naucalpan de Juárez and with a consular district covering the territory of the State of Mexico, and for the appointment of Dan Tartakovsky, a citizen of the United Mexican States, as an honorary (non-permanent) consular official of Bulgaria in the United Mexican States, with headquarters in the municipality of Naucalpan de Juárez and with a consular district covering the territory of the State of Mexico, the Council of Ministers said in a press release.

The State of Mexico is one of the most populous and economically important territorial units of the United Mexican States. The appointment of an honorary (non-permanent) consular official in this state will create new opportunities for enriching bilateral Bulgarian-Mexican relations.

Dan Tartakovsky has made a significant contribution to promoting a positive image of Bulgaria, including Bulgaria's role in saving Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War. Over the years, Tartakovsky has worked actively on anti-Semitism issues. He is currently Vice President of B'nai B'rith International, the world's oldest Jewish community organization for North Latin America and the Caribbean, and its Special Ambassador to various bodies within the UN system.

Tartakovsky is a respected figure in Mexican society. Over the years, he has proved to be a friend of Bulgaria and on a number of occasions has provided valuable assistance to the Bulgarian Embassy in Mexico, thus contributing to the development of Bulgarian-Mexican relations and to the promotion of Bulgaria's positive image in the country.
