site.btaSofia Officially Named Host City of 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

Bulgaria officially received the right to host the next European Weightlifting Championships for men and women. The tournament will be held at Arena Sofia in the country's capital between February 12 and 20, 2024. It will be a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Bulgaria was not the first choice. Turkiye lost the host status over doping-related irregularities.

"It is a dream come true," Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation President Arif Majed commented. He thanked everyone who helped to make the decision a fact. "We are honoured to be trusted with such a high responsibility. We will make the tournament an unforgettable experience for all participants and spectators."

Bulgaria last hosted European championships in weightlifting in 2005, when the tournament was held in Universiada Hall in Sofia.

A delegation of the European Weightlifting Federation, led by its President Antonio Conflitti, has completed a three-day inspection in Sofia. It has approved all facilities necessary for this important competition.
