National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov spoke with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. In their face-to-face conversation, Zhelyazkov once again stressed that Bulgaria is a staunch supporter of the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective for Georgia, said the National Assembly press centre.
Zourabichvili expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Bulgarian parliamentary delegation to Tbilisi. She noted the excellent bilateral relations and sincere friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries. The Georgian President expressed confidence that with the support of Bulgaria, Georgia will soon receive the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union.
Bulgaria believes in the enlargement of the EU and is firmly convinced that Georgia will soon receive the status of a candidate for membership, Zhelyazkov said. He expressed Bulgaria's support for Georgia's efforts to meet EU criteria.
Zhelyazkov expressed his satisfaction with the constructive and mutually beneficial talks that took place during his official visit to Georgia. “At the meetings, I was assured that there is an upswing in bilateral cooperation and a desire to take it to an even higher level,” he added, as quoted in the press release.
A parliamentary delegation led by Zhelyazkov arrived on Monday on an official visit to the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. The visit was at the invitation of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
