Foreign Minister Gabriel to Present Bulgaria's Bid for Membership of UN Human Rights Council in 2024-2026

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel will present Tuesday Bulgaria's bid for membership of the UN Human Rights Council in the 2024-2026 period, the Foreign Ministry said. The representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria are invited to the presentation which will take place at 17:00 at the Kvadrat 500 National Gallery.

In the 2019-2021 period, Bulgaria fulfilled its first mandate as a member of the Human Rights Council. For the new period, it is committed to support measures and policies aimed at combating all forms of discrimination and intolerance; promote the inclusion of women and girls in leadership positions in all spheres of life; protect the rights of the child, including the right to universal access to education for every child; and participate in international efforts to combat misinformation, promote media freedom and protect journalists.

Bulgaria is currently a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF (2023-2025) and of the Executive Board of UN Women (2023-2025).
