Government Proposes Highest State Award for "Father of Benalgin" Prof. Rahamin Shekerdziyski

Pharmacist Prof. Rahamin Shekerdzhiyski, known as the "father of benalgin", has been proposed by the government to be awarded the highest state decoration - the Order of Stara Planina, first degree. The draft decision is the first item on the agenda of Wednesday's regular government meeting. 

The government's proposal to award the decoration is addressed to the President of Bulgaria, who must issue a decree on the award. Prof. Shekerdzhiyski is a distinguished scientist in the field of pharmacy with over 66 years of service. Born in Dupnitsa, Southwestern Bulgaria in 1934, he is a benefactor of local schools, kindergartens as well as the football club in the town.

His contribution to pharmacy includes nearly 80 drug developments, 30 of which have been successfully implemented and are well known in practice, including Benalgin - the pain pill.

The nomination of Shekerdzhiyski was supported by a declaration of the local municipal council in Dupnitsa. 

The agenda of the government meeting also included amendments to the decree regulating the conditions and procedure for approving the number of students and postgraduates admitted to study at state universities, as well as the adoption of the list of priority professional fields.
