More than 55% of Bulgaria's cultivable vineyard area is used for red wine production said Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Yanko Topalov Thursday. He opened the ceremony for the annual Golden Wine Cellar awards, organized by Exporter.bg.

Topalov stressed that in 2021 the grape production is nearly 180 thousand tons, which is 12% more compared to the previous year. He noted that these figures, together with the increased number of registered winemakers, indicated the economic stability in the sector.

He congratulated the representatives of the Bulgarian wine sector for their work and perseverance with which they promote Bulgaria as a European wine destination on a daily basis.

Topalov presented the grand prize for "The strongest support from wine connoisseurs on social networks" to the winery Villa Melnik winery. The second award he presented to the Bononia Estate winery in the category "New ideas in wine tourism".
