Deputy Prosecutor General Desislava Pironeva and prosecutor Mariyana Lilova of the International Department at the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of Cassation represented Bulgaria at the 4th EuroMed Forum of Prosecutors General, the prosecution service said Thursday. The event brought together representatives of EU Member States, the Middle East and North Africa in The Hague on October 12 and 13.
The forum’s programme focused on matters of interest to the members of the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) and their partners in the Mediterranean related to judicial cooperation in investigating cross-border crime. The discussions also focused on the challenges facing the EuroMed Justice members that stem from the increasing migration pressure on the EU’s external borders, including on Bulgaria.
EuroMed Justice is a capacity-building programme implemented by Eurojust to develop a sustainable cross-regional mechanism of judicial cooperation in criminal matters between EU Member States, the South Partner Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia), and EU Justice and Home Affairs Agencies. The Forum of Prosecutors General, held annually since 2018, gathers prosecutors general from both sides of the Mediterranean to decide on strategies and policies to be developed in the region for the enhancing of cross-border cooperation in criminal matters.
