A landslide closed the road to Athinios, Santorini’s main ferry port, disrupting traffic and raising safety concerns ahead of Easter, ERT said on Friday.

Geologist Constantinos J. Loupasakis said the site should be shut immediately despite the landslide’s limited size, while ERT also pointed to possible deeper structural problems.

The report also said the road could reopen in a few days after the debris is cleared.

ERT also pointed to a risk of deeper structural problems because of a combination of rainfall, steep slopes and human activity, including excavation works and construction.

Seismic activity had also played a role, ERT said, noting that 460 weak earthquakes had been recorded in the region since July.
