On Tuesday, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Kirsty Coventry congratulated the Bulgarian Olympic Committee on Tervel Zamfirov's bronze medal from the men's parallel giant slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Bulgaria's first medal from Winter Olympics in 20 years. Coventry and Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President-elect Vesela Lecheva spoke in Milan, where a meeting of representatives of national Olympic committees and IOC members was held.

Lecheva shared: "Coventry offered special congratulations to our medallist Tervel Zamfirov. I told her that for Bulgarians, this medal is equivalent to an Olympic title because it has been long awaited and well deserved. I also told her that our whole country is excited and talking about this achievement. People are happy about the success and are following the Bulgarian participation, but also that of the stars of the Games in all other sports. Tervel Zamfirov is a true ambassador of Olympic values. He is not only an excellent athlete, but also a well-rounded sportsman, a role model for many young people in Bulgaria."

Lecheva also spoke with the President of World Gymnastics, Morinari Watanabe, who congratulated Zamfirov and wished Bulgaria further success in the Winter Games.
