High and very high danger of heavy rain has been declared for Thursday, February 5, in 22 out of 28 administrative regions in Bulgaria.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a red alert (the highest of three alert levels) for parts of the southern regions of Kardzhali and Smolyan. In Kardzhali Region, the red alert applies to Kirkovo and Krumovgrad, while in Smolyan Region it covers Zlatograd and Rudozem. In the other settlements of both regions, an orange alert (second level) is in effect.
An orange alert has also been issued for Gurkovo, Maglizh and Nikolaevo in Stara Zagora Region, as well as in Nova Zagora, Sliven and Tvarditsa in Sliven Region, according to the Hazardous Phenomena section on the NIMH website.
A yellow alert (first level) for intense rainfall has been issued for the regions of Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Gabrovo, Haskovo, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, and Yambol.
A yellow alert for low temperatures and icy conditions is in force for Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven, parts of Pernik Region, Sofia City and Sofia Region.
Meteorological alerts for intense rainfall warn of dangers when driving due to reduced visibility and aquaplaning, transport disruptions, possible interruptions to electricity, communications and water supply, and a potential risk of flooding.
