The latest film by Jacky Stoev and Nikola Boshnakov, Aurora, will have its gala premiere at the 30th Sofia Film Fest, Art Fest announced on Monday.
One of the leading roles is played by Brenno Placido. The co-writer of the screenplay is Hristo Iliev-Charli.
Set during the early 1950s in the Cold War era, the story follows an Italian communist and journalist who falls in love with the daughter of an industrialist sentenced by the People’s Court. The young woman is forced to survive as a prostitute under the protection of the official sculptor of the communist regime, while facing the looming threat of the insatiable sexual appetite of a high-ranking secret service officer.
In addition to the son of the famous and beloved Italian actor Michele Placido, the cast includes Konstantina Georgieva, Koyna Ruseva, Hristo Garbov, Italian legend Franco Nero, Ivana Keranova, Boyan Arsov, Diyan Machev, Bozhidar Manov, and Kalin Arsov.
Aurora is a co-production between Bulgaria (Ivan Tonev – ARS Ltd.) and Italy (Giuseppe Lepore – Bielle Re). The film's cinematographer is Antony Stoev, and the music is composed by Elisa Minari.
