The Vazrazhdane party slammed Sofia’s city leadership and Mayor Vasil Terziev personally for failing to address a waste crisis, accusing the municipal authorities of mismanagement and calling for an investigation into alleged lobbying interests in waste collection, as well as the Mayor’s resignation.

Sofia is facing growing problems with waste accumulation, with large piles of garbage reported in several neighborhoods, including the Slatina district and the Geo Milev area, the party said Monday in a statement by its Sofia chapter. According to them, the situation has led to the emergence of illegal dumping sites and reflects a broader failure in municipal waste management.

The group blamed the crisis on what it described as administrative incompetence, lack of oversight, and the influence of economic interests. Vazrazhdane–Sofia called for an investigation into alleged lobbying linked to waste collection contracts and urged increased investment in the municipal waste company Sofekostroy, which it said could provide a long-term solution at lower cost.

The organization also criticized Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, arguing that he has failed to address the sanitation problem and manage the city effectively. Vazrazhdane–Sofia called on the mayor to resign, saying the capital needs new leadership capable of restoring cleanliness and proper governance.
