Traffic for vehicles over 12 tonnes has been restored on the Sofia - Kulata road through the Kulata - Promachonas border crossing with Greece, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced. The passage of heavy goods vehicles was suspended earlier on Monday due to a protest by Greek farmers.
At a national meeting held in Nea Malgara near Thessaloniki, which lasted almost four hours, the protesting Greek farmers who have been blocking roads across the country since the end of November, gave the government until Wednesday to respond to their main demands, according to private broadcaster Skai TV.
Farmers warned that on Thursday and Friday they will step up their protest actions, carrying out a complete 48-hour blockade of motorways, secondary roads, and all border crossings in Greece. The farmers’ protest began on 3 December.
The current wave of Greek farmers’ and livestock breeders’ protests began in late November 2025, triggered by delays in the payment of EU-backed agricultural subsidies after a corruption scandal at Greece’s agricultural payments agency OPEKEPE led to intensified checks.
