The price of the consumer basket increased by BGN 1 in a week, rising from BGN 100 to 101, State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets Chair Vladimir Ivanov said on Monday. He noted that the change is driven entirely by seasonal factors.
The prices of tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, green peppers, red peppers, lemons, bananas, oranges and grapes fell during the past week.
Only courgettes posted an increase, by BGN 0.47. Apple prices remained unchanged from past week.
Egg prices were unchanged week-on-week, while those of flour, sugar, beans and rice rose. Prices decreased for cheese, yellow cheese, butter, yoghurt, fresh milk, sunflower oil, pork and chicken meat.
Ivanov said the variations are small and no upward trend has formed for any product. The movements observed are seasonal and related to logistics.
According to the Commission’s data, wholesale prices of key products since May 20 show stability and typical seasonal fluctuations.
Ivanov clarified that the figures represent wholesale prices and are indicative, intended to help consumers make more informed and rational choices when shopping at retail outlets. Wholesale trade reflects the pulse of the economy, and the market is currently normal and calm, typical for the season and unaffected by external factors, he added.
