ABV Party Says It Will Endorse "Yes" Answer in Upcoming Referendum
Sofia, August 30 (BTA) - The ABV party said on Sunday it will
endorse a "yes" answer to the October 25 referendum question
about whether to allow remote electronic voting in political
elections and referendums. "It is with this answer that we will
register at the Central Election Commission," ABV Deputy
Chairman and Campaign Chief Roumen Petkov told a news
conference.
Petkov reviewed his party's readiness for the local elections
which will coincide with the referendum. He said the ABV
National Council, which met earlier in the day, approved 94
candidates for municipality mayors and 8 for borough mayors
(including 2 in Sofia and 6 in Plovdiv). This adds to 84
municipality mayor candidates approved at a previous meeting.
Among Bulgaria's 27 regional capitals, ABV has candidates in 21
cities, including two candidates supported by coalitions with
other parties and one independent candidate.
ABV will conduct a strictly positive election campaign,
advertising what it stands for and what policies and solutions
it proposes. According to Petkov, village mayors should be given
broader powers because they have no leverage to influence the
formation of the budgets of their areas. ABV wants the debate on
the second tier of local government to lead to a legislative
decision, he said.
Earlier on Sunday, Petkov submitted ABV's application for
registration for the local elections to the Central Election
Commission.
