Sofia, August 23 (BTA) - Konstantin Kamenarov was elected as the new Director General of Bulgarian National Television by the Council of Electronic Media (CEM) on Wednesday. He was backed by four of the five members of the regulator.

The arguments in favour of Kamenarov include his professionalism, managerial competence, good concept for the development of BNT and inside knowledge of the public broadcaster, the members of CEM said.

Kamenarov, who presented his concept on Tuesday, said it was based on realistic ideas attainable on a tight budget. He underscored that BNT's current budget is extremely insufficient, comparing it to 15 years ago when it was twice as large.

Kamenarov was born on July 31, 1964. He graduated in medicine and started work as a reporter for BNT in the early 1990s, later becoming head of its news channel. In 1999, he was briefly spokesperson for Ivan Kostov's government of the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces. Between 2011 and 2013, Kamenarov was BNT's operations director. He worked as a consultant and lobbyist at EY between 2013 and 2017.
