site.btaTourist Boat Magelan Runs Aground near Sts Quiricus and Julietta Island off Sozopol

The tourist boat Magelan, which operated sightseeing trips in the Sozopol Bay during the summer season, has run aground near Sts Quiricus and Julietta Island after its anchor broke due to rough seas and strong winds, the Sozopol Municipality told BTA on Monday.

The vessel had been moored near a harbour by a hotel, but heavy seas and strong winds two days ago caused the anchor to snap. As a result, the boat was carried away and struck rocks along the quay wall around the island, where it listed to one side and began taking on water, the Municipality said.

No injuries were reported.

The Magelan was a popular attraction in the region over the summer months, operating daily sightseeing cruises in the bay.
