Georgiovden folklore formation from Barcelona, Spain, which operates at the Bulgarian Sunday School in Barcelona and is part of the local St George Association, will take part in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, which will be held from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich.
"At the festival we will present the Shoppe dance Zadyavka na Megdana [Flirting at the Village Square]," Ventsislav Angelov, leader of the folklore formation, told BTA. "With our performance we want to show the audience that we preserve and safeguard one of Bulgaria’s most precious treasures, its folklore," he added.
Angelov said the choreography of the dance is his own, while the music is traditional. Preparations for the participation are progressing with great enthusiasm, excitement and intensive rehearsals.
He said the Georgiovden folklore formation was established on December 5, 2008, and has since consistently worked to preserve and promote Bulgarian dances, traditions and customs among the Bulgarian community in Spain.
Regarding the composition of the group, Angelov said it consists of 17 dancers, 12 women and five men, aged from 18 to over 50.
The travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
