site.btaBulgaria Restricts Heavy Truck Traffic on Trakia and Struma Motorways Friday to Sunday

Bulgaria will temporarily restrict the movement of heavy goods vehicles weighing over 12 tonnes on Trakia Motorway, Struma Motorway and a section of the I-1 road through the Kresna Gorge, to ease weekend traffic and improve road safety, said the Road Infrastructure Agency.

On Friday, July 17, trucks over 12 tonnes will be banned from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in both directions on Trakia Motorway and in the Greece-bound lane on Struma Motorway. On Sunday, July 19, the restrictions will apply from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in both directions on Trakia Motorway and Sofia-bound lane on Struma Motorway.

The restrictions do not apply to buses, vehicles transporting hazardous materials, live animals, perishable food or temperature-controlled cargo, as well as specialized rendering trucks and road maintenance vehicles.

During the restrictions, trucks traveling toward Burgas on Trakia Motorway are advised to use the I-6 Sub-Balkan Road as an alternative route. Vehicles traveling to and from the Kulata border crossing will be redirected via the II-19 Simitli–Gotse Delchev road and the III-198/III-1981 roads through Chuchuligovo before rejoining the I-1 road near Kulata.
