The European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Subcommittee on Tax Matters will vote on June 24 on the proposal for a report on Bulgaria's readiness to join the euro area at the beginning of next year. This is according to the agenda of the upcoming meeting. The rapporteur of the European Parliament is GERB/EPP MEP Eva Maydell.

The report is scheduled to be voted in the EP plenary in Strasbourg on July 8. On the same day, the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council is expected to adopt the last legislative decisions related to the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.

On Thursday, the Eurogroup decided unanimously to recommend to the EU Council to vote on a decision on Bulgaria's accession to the euro area from next year. Later in the day, the EU Council is expected to adopt this recommendation and send a letter to the European Council. The European Council's opinion is expected next week.
