European Council President Antonio Costa said here on Monday that the causes of the power outages in parts of Spain and Portugal are yet to be identified, however, there is evidence that it was not caused by a cyberattack. Costa reported that he discussed the situation with the prime ministers of Spain and Portugal, as well as with the heads of the management boards of some of the electricity distribution companies, and he was assured that work is underway to restore electricity supply.

After significant parts of Spain and Portugal were affected by power outages, Spanish grid operator Red Electrica reported that it was working with energy companies to fix the problem.
