The handing over of a government-forming mandate within the framework of the 51st National Assembly is a constitutional procedure and it must be carried out, VMRO leader Krasimir Karkachanov said as quoted by the party's press centre on Sunday. "What matters, however, is that none of the parties in the presidential roulette, which is to be spun on Monday, has either the authority, the resources or the public trust to take on this challenge," Karakachanov said.

VMRO called on all parties to return the mandate as quickly as possible and to move towards early parliamentary elections. For every Bulgarian citizen it is clear that this National Assembly is a complete failure, Karakachanov said. Moreover, he added, it has caused enormous damage to Bulgaria by repeatedly betraying the national interest. In this sense, the parties represented in it do not deserve any new chance to enter the governance of the country.

"Until yesterday [Saturday], they justified their hold on power with the introduction of the euro; now they will try to stay on with the same argument that they are fighting the rampant price speculation. The truth is that they have clung so tightly to power, to public resources and to the billions under the Recovery and Resilience Plan that they are ready to do anything in order to remain in office. Enough. We have seen their true faces. There is no one left who will fall for their lies,” Karakachanov said.

He added that more than ever before, given the international situation and the domestic economic crisis, Bulgaria needs an entirely new governance and leaders who will adequately and responsibly defend the interests of the state and the Bulgarian people.

“The obedient servants of foreign states and the political speculators who think only about filling their bank accounts must receive their deserved retribution, at the very least by being removed from politics through the will and vote of the people,” Karakachanov said.
