The 23rd Summer University National Summer Student Games - Bulgaria's largest sports and educational event - started in Kiten on August 24, the eve of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the National Representation of Student Councils (NRSC) in Bulgarian universities, the organization announced on Monday.
The event will be on until August 31.
The organizers said that a record 650 university students and doctoral students from over 33 higher education institutions in Bulgaria have joined the games. With their sporting spirit and youthful energy, the entrants will compete in various sports events and will take part in a cultural and educational programme. Once again, the Summer University will be a venue for building friendships, partnerships, and exchanging ideas among young people.
The official opening brought together a number of guests, including Education and Science Minister Krasimir Valchev, who greeted the participants.
Among the official guests were National Student House Director Nikola Tanakov, Bulgarian Tennis Federation Management Board member, Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Staykov, the National Music Academy Rector, Prof. Sava Dimitrov, the National Sports Academy Rector, Prof. Krasimir Petkov, and the Deputy Mayor of Sofia's Studentski Borough, Assoc. Prof. Dragomir Stefanov.
Addressing the student community, the guests stressed the importance of the event for the personal and professional development of young people, the organizers said.
Partners of Summer University 2025 are the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Student Canteens and Dormitories, the municipalities of Burgas, Primorsko and Kiten, the Bulgarian Football Union, the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy, as well as a number of companies and organizations.
In their press release, the organizers said that "Summer University 2025 reasserts its role as one of the most significant student events in Bulgaria, an initiative that brings young people together through sport, education, and friendship and leaves a lasting mark on the academic and social environment."
