On this date in Bulgarian history:

1975: The Bobovdol Thermal Power Plant, designed entirely by Bulgarians, is brought on stream.

2000: Bulgaria and Romania sign a declaration on the construction of a second bridge across the Danube at Vidin-Calafat. Inaugurated June 14, 2013.

2002: An Honorary Consulate of Belarus opens in Burgas (on the Black Sea), covering Varna, Dobrich and Burgas consular districts.

2006: Bulgaria is admitted as observer country to the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly during the organization’s second annual plenary session (March 26-27, 2006). This status remains in effect until Bulgaria's EU accession on January 1, 2007.

2014: Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova presents an Honorary Citizen of Sofia title to Cecilia Attias, former wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, for her contribution to the release of the Bulgarian medics imprisoned in Libya.
