site.btaTaraclia-based Choreographer Mishkoy on Participation in Silistra International Children's Folklore Festival

Taraclia-based choreographer Elena Mishkoy Monday told BTA about the participation of the Balgarski Izvor Dance Ensemble in the 28th International Children's Folk Dance Festival in Silistra (on the Danube) on July 1-3. Mishkoy, who is artistic director of the ensemble in Taraclia, described the event as a true celebration of creativity, friendship, and culture. 

At the festival, the ensemble presented Moldovan and Bulgarian folklore dances. Thirteen dancers aged between 12 and 16 took part in the forum.

“It is particularly gratifying that many fellow choreographers highly praised the professionalism, discipline, and skill of our children, and the festival organizers expressed their sincere gratitude for our contribution to preserving Bulgarian culture and traditions in Moldova,” Mishkoy noted. 

According to her, the most important thing was the atmosphere created by the festival. “Our children made friends with participants from groups in Poland, Romania, Serbia, and, of course, Bulgaria. Despite the different languages, everyone was united by music, dance, and the children’s sincere smiles,” she said.

In addition to emotions and friendships, the performers returned home with a plaque and a certificate for their participation in the dance festival.

This year’s edition of the festival featured over 400 participants from Moldova, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and Serbia, Silistra Municipality said in a press release. The cultural forum was held under the auspices of the Silistra Mayor. The festival is a member of the Bulgarian national section of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF).

Balgarski Izvor has repeatedly won awards and honours at national and international competitions and festivals. The group has performed throughout Bulgaria, as well as in the Czech Republic, Greece, Montenegro, Turkiye, and Israel.
