Nearly 180 participants from six countries have already registered to take part in the 85th Galata Varna Swimming Marathon, which will be held on July 27, the organizers of the initiative said at a press conference on Wednesday.

It is the oldest swimming competition in Bulgaria and the Varna Municipality is glad to participate in the organization of the event, Varna Deputy Mayor Iliya Koev emphasized, adding the swimming marathon is one of the symbols of Varna and will for ever remain part of Bulgaria's history and the memory of several generations of Varna residents.

Marathon Director Captain I Rank Kamen Kukurov stressed that the marathon has been postponed to the end of July for the first time in history in view of climate change and the numerous unfavorable circumstances for swimming in early August, including strong winds, underwater currents and high waves.

All participants must report on July 27 at 06:30 a.m. at the Karantinata Fishing Port in Asparouhovo borough and are required to bring suitable bags to store their personal belongings during the event.

The 85th Galata Varna Marathon is organized by the Varna Municipality, the Bulgarian Navy and the Black Sea Sports Club, with the assistance of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy.
