On June 3, Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President Vesela Lecheva met in Lausanne with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and Kirsty Coventry, who will take over the post on June 23 after she was elected in March for a term of eight years.

Receiving Lecheva at Olympic House, Bach and Coventry congratulated her on her election as BOC President and expressed appreciation of Bulgarian sports and the country’s Olympic Movement.

The guest thanked Bach for his longtime work as IOC leader. She congratulated Coventry on her compelling victory in the elections for IOC president, describing it as an acknowledgement for her dedicated work in the IOC and a sign of trust in her personal qualities. Both Lecheva and Coventry sit on the IOC Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Commission, which deals with strategic matters concerning the organization’s development.

The Olympism365 Summit, taking place in Lausanne between June 3 and 5, is, among other things, a farewell event for Bach as IOC chief. According to Lecheva, he stands firmly behind the BOC, and in his new capacity as IOC Honorary President he pledged full support for the development of the Olympic Movement in Bulgaria and worldwide.

Lecheva also talked with IOC member Auvita Rapilla, who chairs the Olympism365 Commission, and with Prince Feisal Al Hussein, who was one of the candidates for IOC president and heads the International Safe Sport Steering Committee. The Bulgarian official had separate sessions with national Olympic committee leaders, NGO representatives and businesspeople.

The Olympism365 Summit, the first event of its kind, is attended by over 250 sport leaders of more than 100 organizations, each of whom was invited personally. For the first time ever, leading members of the Olympic Movement have come together with United Nations representatives and business executives engaged in the development of sports.
