Bulgaria's highest ranked tennis player Grigor Dimitrov withdrew from his first round match at Roland Garros on Tuesday due to an injury. He won the first two sets against American qualifier Ethan Quinn before retiring at 6-2 6-3 2-6.
Dimitrov used a medical timeout for a thigh injury in the first set and the physical discomfort worsened as the match went on. After losing four games in a row in the third set, he decided to retire from the tie.
That is the fourth consecutive Grand Slam tournament which the Bulgarian leaves injured. The country's most successful tennis player holds the record for most consecutive Grand Slam main draw appearances with 57 - he has not missed a single major championship since the Australian Open 2011. Djokovic holds the second-longest streak (51) – he took part in every Grand Slam between Australian Open 2005 and Wimbledon 2017.
Last year the Bulgarian debuted at the Roland Garros quarterfinals, which means he will drop points and will most likely leave top 20 of the rankings after the tournament's end.
