site.btaFourth Casualty Identified in Flood-Hit Elenite Resort Village, Burgas Police Confirms

A fourth victim of the flooding in the area of the Elenite resort village was discovered Saturday evening, the Director of the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov, told journalists on Saturday. 

“We received an alert from a Russian citizen who said he had arrived today from Russia after being unable to contact his wife. The family owns a villa in Elenite, in the outer part of the villa zone, where the volume of water was the highest,” Marinov explained.

The man went to the site and indicated the location of their home. The team carrying out the clearing operations found the body of his wife, a 58-year-old woman, he added.

The body had been buried under mud and debris carried by the powerful flood wave.

“An inspection of the body will follow, along with procedural and investigative actions. The alert was responded to immediately. This is the fourth fatality. A forensic medical examination will be appointed to establish the cause of death,” said Marinov.
