site.btaKenyan Athletes Win 5K Beroe Road Race, Ivan Andreev and Devora Avramova Are Top-Placed Bulgarian Athletes


The 5K Beroe Road Race gathered hundreds of professionals and amateurs from all over the country and abroad for the third consecutive year.
In the race for elite runners, the men's winner was Hilary Kiptum (Kenya) with 14:30 minutes and his compatriot Jacinta Kavindu in the women's race with 16:33.
Ivan Andreev (Bulgaria) with 14:39 and Stoyan Vladkov (Bulgaria) with 14:49 completed the men's podium, followed by Ismail Ssenyange (Uganda) with 15:06 and Amos Kipchirchir (Kenya) with 15:33.
In the women's race, Nancy Githaiga (Kenya) took second place with 16:45 minutes, ahead of Devora Avramova (Bulgaria) with 17:04 and Bilserin Syuleyman (Bulgaria) with 18:04, the Bulgarian Athletics Federation said.
The start of the elite run was given by the President of the Bulgarian Athletics Federation Ivan Kolev and the mass start of the 5 km-run by Bulgaria’s top athlete for 2024 Tihomir Ivanov. Both he and Kolev also covered the distance. Two-time Olympic high jump finalist Ivanov clocked 25:12 minutes, while Kolev recorded an official time of 32:35.
Hundreds of children from Stara Zagora also competed in the short distance of 600 meters.
Veteran elite runners also showed excellent results. Sixty-year old Zhelyazko Zhelev clocked 19:52. A year before turning 70, Vladimir Panovsky outran more than half of the 5km runners and finished 71st overall with a time of 23:53. His wife Rumiana Panovska (winner of the Sofia Marathon and 20 times participant of the Balkan Cross Country Championships of the Bulgarian national team) took first place in the over 55 category with a time of 21:21 minutes.
